My views on education all stem from my experiences throughout my own childhood. My teachers growing up had a significant impact on who I am today. I was very lucky to grow up in a small town where everyone knew everyone and many of the teachers taught one of your relatives or someone older or younger than you that you also knew. The teachers I had throughout school were those who cared. It was through them and through my parents that I was able to become more self confident and embrace my individuality.
My philosophy on education is not to take away the students individuality but to let them show their individual experiences and thoughts through their schoolwork and interpersonal relationships. I want the students to be able to feel comfortable in the class and establish a safe place for students to learn and be themselves. Every student will be a part of our classroom dynamic. Exclusion will not be tolerated and respect is to be shown to not only the adults in the classroom, but to each student as well. Making my classroom as similar to life as I can, I will guide students to make the right decisions within our classroom. My ultimate goal is that these decisions will eventually transcribe and impact how each child lives their life each day. Every student deserves a chance and this can only be accomplished by keeping the door open and being receptive to new ideas and theories.
My goal is not to get each student in my class at a level 4 on all of the standardized tests. My primary responsibility is to help get your child to that 4. Everybody develops differently, it's important to keep in mind that I do not expect everyone to be reading on the same level or with the same fluency. There is always going to be something that can be improved upon, my job will be to give your child strategies and ways to practice and improve . I will assess them by effort, how much improvement has been made, and also the character they show throughout the day in our classroom. As I stated before, I think it's important to keep the door open, the door to my classroom will aways be open and I want to hear what your thoughts and concerns are.
